Unique Ways To Decorate Your Walls

There are so many different ways to decorate walls. Below are a few alternative ideas that could be worth considering if you’re looking for a way to spice up a bare wall in your home.

Exposed brick

For a rustic feel, consider stripping back a wall to reveal the brickwork beneath. This can make a great feature wall in a kitchen or living room and could be a great way of highlighting the history of a building. Exposed brick needs to be carefully sealed to protect it from damage. Some people prefer to stick on brick slips rather than stripping back the plaster – this can be easier, plus you get to choose the style of brickwork.

Wall mural

You could make a dramatic feature out of a wall by painting a mural on it. This mural could be anything from a beach to a city skyline. Murals can bring a wall to life and add a sense of depth to a room. You can either hire an artist to paint your mural or buy wallpaper with a mural already printed on it.

Photo collage

There are lots of different ways to display photos on a wall. One creative way of displaying lots of photos could be to create your own collage. This can result in a busy wall of memories that you and your guests can enjoy looking through. It’s a great way to liven up a wall in a home office, hallway or bathroom.

Mirrors

Mirrors can add the illusion of space to a room and help to reflect light. The bathroom and bedroom are the most common rooms to hang up mirrors, but you can add mirrors to any room. For a creative wall feature, consider hanging multiple mirrors on a single wall.

Vintage signs

Vintage signs are a fun way to add character to your home. These could be replica signs or original antique signs found at a second-hand store. Try to match the theme of signs to the room – old vintage cafeteria and diner signs can look great in a kitchen, while old bar signs could look great in a home bar.

Maps

You could also consider hanging a map on a wall. If you’re well-traveled, you could even hang up a world map and highlight the places you’ve traveled. Alternatively, you could hang up a map of a city or county that is meaningful to you (perhaps the city or county where you grew up). These can all be fun ways to tell a story about yourself.

Wood veneer

Wood veneer paneling has been coming back into fashion and can be a great way to add an earthy touch to a wall. Wood veneer panels are available in various different wood tones. Find a tone that works well with your chosen room.

Artistic shelves

Shelving is a practical way to make use of a wall. Instead of opting for a single floating shelf or regular shelving cabinet, consider looking into creative shelving designs. This includes exploring geometric shapes or even shaping shelves to look like letters.

Clocks

Many of us no longer display clocks in our homes because our digital devices display the time for us. However, a clock on a wall can still be a fun feature. There are many quirky clock designs out there that can be great for communal spaces like kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms – consider hanging up one of these clocks.
